We must ensure that ongoing generations remember and commemorate the history of this country to learn from the lessons of history to become more involved with their communitites, have a better understanding of how our country came to be what it is, and thus have a better understanding of how to better their country further for a brighter future.

DETAILS ON EVENTS

March 1st SUPER TUESDAY

On this Day in History, several states, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia will have their contest primaries or caucuses. Super Tuesday is one of the most crucial events, and is even referred to as the day when the nominee for presidential candidate of either party is chosen. 

March 1, Four States Joined the Union in March. 

On this day in history, 4 new states joined the Union. The states are Ohio (17th state on March 1st, 1803), Nebraska (37th March 1st, 1867), Florida (27th on March 3rd, 1845) and Maine (25th March 15, 1820). 

March 1, 1961

On this day in history, President Kennedy signed the executive order which established the Peace Corp. According to Kennedy the Peace Corps was supposed to be a "new kind of army" of the United States made up of civilian volunteers who would travel to help underdeveloped countries. 

March 2, 1998 

On this day in our history, the first ever Read Across America Day was observed. The day was established on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, a popular author of children's books. The day is meant to get more people to read, and provide resources to all people especially teachers with resources to expand reading. 

 

March 3, 1913

On this day in our history, Alice Paul organized a parade advocating for the women's right to vote. The parade was organized shortly before the inaguration of Presidnet Willson to send a stronger message to the government about providing women with the same rights as men. 

March 5th, 1770.

On this day in our history, A group of American colonists went outside the Boston House of Customs portesting taxation. They also taunted the British guards standing outside the House of Customs which resulted in British soldiers accidentally opening fire on the colonists. 5 were killed, and the incident infuriated the American public sterring them closer to revolution. 

March 6th, 1836.

On this day in our history, The Battle of the Alamo ended in Texas. The battle of the Alamo was a major battle that took place between Texas and Mexioc when Texas was fighting to gain its independence. Roughly two hundred Texan soldiers fought bravely outnumbered against a large Mexican army were almost completely wiped out, but the defeat only rallied more Texan people to the cause of revolution eventaully winning the war.

 March 15, 1820
On this day in history, Our good ol' lovely state of Maine offically joined the Union becoming America's 23rd state. 

March 22, 1972.

On this day in our history, The equal rights amendment to the consitution was paseed which was meant to gurantee women same rights as men under the constituion. Although passed in Congress, it failed to be ratified by 2/3 of the states by the 1979 deadline.

March 23, 1775

On this day in history, a famous American revolution supported named Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech as he tried to rally more people throughout the colonies to support the revolutionary cause of America. To this day his words ring what America stands for. Freedom for all with no oppresive government controlling your life.  

 

March 28, 1979
On this day in history, one of the worst nuclear disasters in American history occurred in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The nuclear accident was scaled as a point 5 nuclear incident on a 7 point scale. Although extreme castrophy was mostly avoided, the incident turned many people off from supporting nuclear energy and resulted in many more restrictions passed on the nuclear energy industry.
